Tattoo Removal
Cutera Enlighten uses focused laser energy to break tattoo ink into tiny particles, which your body gradually clears over time. Treatment is customized based on the tattoo’s color, size, location, age, and ink depth.
Most tattoos require multiple treatment sessions, spaced several weeks apart to allow the skin to heal and the body to clear the ink. You may experience temporary redness, swelling, tenderness, or changes in the appearance of the tattoo after treatment.
Results vary, and complete tattoo removal is not always possible. Dr. Tee can assess your tattoo and create a personalized treatment plan at a consulation appointment.

How enlighten® works for tattoo removal
-
Multiple wavelengths: 532 nm, 670 nm, and 1064 nm allow treatment of different tattoo ink colors.
-
Picosecond technology: Ultra-short pulses deliver energy to the ink, creating a photomechanical effect that breaks up pigment rather than relying primarily on heat.
-
Dual pulse durations: enlighten uses 2 nanosecond and 660/750 picosecond pulses, allowing providers to target different ink particle sizes and densities.
-
Multicolor tattoo capability: The different wavelengths are designed to address a broader range of tattoo colors, including dark, red, blue, and green pigments.
Your Cutera Enlighten tattoo removal treatment begins with a personalized assessment of your tattoo and skin. Your provider will select the appropriate laser wavelength and settings based on the tattoo’s color, size, location, and ink density.
During treatment, you may feel a quick snapping or rubber-band-like sensation as the laser targets the tattoo pigment. Treatment time varies depending on the size and complexity of the tattoo.
Afterward, it’s normal to experience temporary redness, swelling, tenderness, or other skin changes in the treated area. Your provider will provide detailed aftercare instructions to support proper healing.
Because tattoo ink varies in color, depth, and density, multiple sessions are typically needed. Dr. Tee will create a treatment plan tailored to your tattoo and goals.
Proper aftercare helps protect the treated area while your skin heals.
-
Keep the area clean and dry for the first day, then gently cleanse as directed.
-
Do not pick, scratch, or peel the treated skin, blisters, or scabs. Allow them to heal naturally.
-
Apply ointment or dressing only as recommended by your provider.
-
Avoid soaking the treated area in pools, hot tubs, baths, or open water until the skin has healed.
-
Protect the area from the sun. Avoid direct sun exposure and use broad-spectrum SPF 30+ on healed skin as directed.
-
Avoid excessive heat and strenuous exercise for the period recommended by your provider.
-
Do not apply irritating products such as exfoliants, retinoids, or harsh skincare products to the treated area until your provider says it is safe.
-
Allow the skin to heal naturally. Temporary redness, swelling, tenderness, crusting, or blistering can occur after treatment.
-
Contact your provider if you experience signs of infection, worsening pain, significant swelling, or any reaction that concerns you.
-
Every patient heals differently. Dr. Tee will give you personalized aftercare instructions based on your treatment and skin’s response.
